The Secret History Of Time To Come: Early Demos
Neutral Drop
The Secret History Of Time To Come: Early Demos is a retrospective collection of recording made from 1983-1993.
This is really how it all began for me, learning to take my music skills to the next level, especially writing and recording songs. Exploring the process was something I was always interested in, being a fan of Les Paul, Stevie Wonder, Prince and others who played multi-instruments and recorded themselves.
So over the years, I would rent or borrow equipment from friends to record and learn everything I could. This was lo-fi to the full extent which may not have been the best but it was what I could get my hands on.
At this point, I was playing with a few people but I was not in a band. As a fan of such guitarists as Jimmy Page, Will Sergeant, James Honeyman-Scott and Andy Summers, to name a few, I was influenced to investigate a wide range of styles and explore recording instrumentals. Since I’m also a fan of Brian Eno and soundtrack music and particularly, Tangerine Dream, Ennio Morricone, Giorgio Moroder, it was time to mix it all together.
What you get are these recordings, which with the exception of two songs, were recorded on a Tascam 424 MKIII 4-track cassette recorder.

Mike Wilson is a Chicago-born songwriter, instrumentalist and producer who launched Neutral Drop as a one-man vessel for his creative vision. From the outset, Mike handled guitars, bass, keyboards, drums and vocals, developing a sound that blends texture, rock drive, and introspective songwriting.
Neutral Drop’s aesthetic is both personal and expansive: Mike uses the band name as his vehicle, but all the parts are his. The self-titled debut laid down that foundation, and subsequent releases have charted a course through ambient soundscapes, rock songwriting, and conceptual retrospectives.
Before Neutral Drop, Mike served as guitarist and songwriter with rock outfit Haegers Bend with his brother Paul. The band recorded a substantial catalog and traversed styles while staying rooted in guitar rock. Haegers Bend drew attention in the rock scene for their DIY approach and guitar-driven sound. Their 2000 release Atomic Dreamland was voted one of the best indie releases in 2000 by Jim DeRogatis in the Chicago Sun-Times.
Mike’s journey is a compelling story of creative evolution. In Haegers Bend he honed his chops in a collaborative band setting; with Neutral Drop he took full artistic control, performing every instrument, crafting songs, shaping the production, and presenting his vision to the world. For fans of guitar-driven rock, ambient texture, and DIY artistry, Neutral Drop represents a fascinating intersection of those worlds.
